J&J Contractors, Inc was contracted by the US Army Corps of Engineers to expand the Department of Defense Combat Feeding Directorate Laboratory at the US Army Soldier Systems Center in Natick, MA onto the existing unfinished second floor space.
The construction of the 39,200 SF expansion took place above the occupied first floor of the facility. At the time the lab served as the only site for all science, technology and innovative full scale development of military rations.
The project included constructing two chemistry labs and five microbiology labs with encompassing office space.
The development also consisted of preparation and instrument rooms, a new nanotechnology materials lab and two new control rooms designed to hold constant temperatures of 40 degrees F and 70 degrees F, respectively. In addition office space for eleven employees, new and relocated stairwells, an elevator for handicapped access and two restrooms were integrated in the main plans.
