J&J Contractors Inc. was selected through the State of Massachusetts competitive bid program as the general contractor for the new 850 student Swampscott High School in Swampscott, MA.
Swampscott High School is configured as two, three-story buildings grouped along a portion of the perimeter of Jackson Recreation Park which had been deemed unsuitable for play fields.
The new high school is approximately 215,000 SF with an apex of three stories. The school serves grades 9 through 12. Affixed adjacent to the high school is a Senior Center that serves the elderly population and hosts community sponsored events.
Swampscott High School is comprised of a library, a cafeteria, a gymnasium, an auditorium, public and academic spaces, school administration offices, and over 20 acres of new play fields and open space. The project also includes significant on-site site work (access roads, parking, and landscaping) and off-site traffic system and drainage system improvements.
The complex on-site site work activities included the removal of 40,000 CY of solid ledge embedment. J&J utilized the immense amount of blasted material by crushing the rock on-site and used the recycled material as fill.
